Commentary, camping and corporate suites!
The team from Highlands Motorsport Park behind the revival of Repco Race to the Sky has invited the experienced commentary team of Craig ‘Ferg’ Ferguson and Grant Stewart back to the event. They’re also making sure there are several kinds of spectating options for fans, whatever their preference.
‘Ferg’, well-known for his daytime show on The Hits Southern Lakes radio station, says he’s absolutely thrilled to be invited back and reunited with Race to the Sky commentary partner Grant Stewart.
“This event brings back marvellous memories especially the friendships we built over the years with Monster, Rocket Ron, Shack and many others that continue to this day,” says Ferg.
“We, like a lot of others, were gutted when the last Race to the Sky finished and can only thank Tony Quinn and the team at Highlands for having the vision to have another go at staging what is the greatest gravel hill climb in the world.
“Grant and I, joined by rookie Brendan Quill this year, can't wait to bring more of the magic that is the Repco Race to the Sky to the thousands who will turn up to support this amazing event on its return in April.”
The 17 to 19 April international hillclimb, which takes place on the famed gravel course which snakes for 14.5 kilometres up the side of the Pisa Range in the Cardrona Valley, will offer camping sites for those with self-contained motorhomes and family-friendly activities and entertainment, as well as fully-catered, marquee-based corporate hospitality options.
Highlands’ events and marketing manager Melanie Kees says their functions team has been responding to dozens of inquiries regarding the corporate hospitality packages now available.
“With a premium viewing position in the Repco Race to the Sky marquee, three great Kiwi-style meals – morning and afternoon teas and a buffet lunch – from a top caterer, a day pass and a copy of the commemorative programme, plus a private cash bar, the corporate hospitality suite certainly offers a fabulous way to enjoy the return of this iconic event in style. “In a contrasting, undoubtedly still popular style is the option to camp on-site on your self-contained campervan in the designated area beside the general admission car park. The cost is $100 per vehicle for Friday and Saturday night, and this covers rubbish, security and other associated costs, with the balance going to a local charity.”
Ms Kees stresses that the camp sites are available only for self-contained campers, not tents or campervans without the required self-containment facilities. “We recommend those interested in booking a camping site make contact via email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line ‘motorhome’ or phone us at Highlands the toll-free number.”
Entries for the 2015 Repco Race to the Sky close on 17 March and a confirmed entry list is expected to be published within a few days.
Tickets are now on sale online from Ticket Direct – simply search for Highlands – or from the Highlands Motorsport Park offices. An adult one-day pass, valid for Saturday or Sunday, costs $50 and a two-day adult pass $80. Children under 16 years of age have free entry when accompanied by a paying adult. Commemorative programmes can be purchased on-site for $10.
